SPOTLIGHT:
Day in the Life of the Project:
Hair International

Work-In-Progress: I thought I'd share a "Case Study" of an on-going project with you. As a viewer, you get to ride-along on a small Corporate Identity project from beginning to end. But let me clarify that this is far cry from our "Typical Project". In fact quiet the opposite. That is why I thought this would be an interesting project to present it here.

When finished, this case study will likely move to our "Critique" section of the site which has been bare since the inception of the site. Let's begin.

Call it Quits?:

Project Status: I've thought about this for some time. If the project is important to the client then a call would be placed to my office. I'm done chasing the client down to get the decisions. I'll take my losses and run for the border. I've already spent more time than I'll ever get back and having to travel back and forth (due to her not having an email) doesn't make me a happy camper. I've learned from my mistake(s) so let's move on.

Waiting Game:

Project Status: Finally got a return phone call this morning. She apologizes for her lack of decision. She will be traveling some more next week. We've tentatively agreed to talk when she returns.

Phone Calls Galore then a Letter:

Project Status: After 2 weeks, I thought it was time to contact the Client to see where she was with her decisions. By this time I've noticed that the Client was really difficult to get a hold of. She does not use e-mail nor is there a way for me to leave a voice mail directly. After about the 4th week I've decided to write her a letter to see if the project was still on the table.

First Presentation of the Designs:

Project Status: After initial design meeting with the Client (March 24th), a formal presentation was presented to Hair International on April 8th 2003. In the presentation booklet, 4 design directions with each design having up to 2 slightly different layout options were proposed.

Synopsis: What you see at the top of this page was my favorite design but the Client felt that it was too "young" for her clientele. Her top lieutenant agreed to my annoyance. She wished to digest the design options a bit longer. Master presentation booklet was left with the Client so that she may further evaluate the designs.

Initial Meeting:

Background: Our Client is a boutique hair salon located in the heart of Silicon Valley. The owner of the salon has been planning to physically expand the space that has grown too small to accommodate the ever expanding clients and stylists. The architectural services were in place when she realized that the currently identity system would not mix well with her plans for the space. KrashLab was contacted to provide the identity system which includes the business cards, letterheads, envelopes and promotional printed programs.
